Wolves

Lifestyle

Wolves are pack animals, living in groups with up to 10 companions, who all work together to catch their prey. They travel long distances each day and can eat 20 pounds in one sitting if available. The pack is formed around a strict hierarchy, led by the alpha male and his mate.

Food

As opportunistic carnivores, wolves will eat prey as large as they can hunt, including elk, deer and moose.

Life Cycle

Wolves can live up to 10 years in the wild and live in groups called packs, with an alpha male as the leader. The alpha male will also have an alpha female and live with their offspring. The mating season extends from late winter to early spring. The females will stay with the family wolf pack, but the male cubs will often venture out and form a pack of their own.

Population & Treats

They have no natural predators except other wolves, hunting and habitat loss.

Range

Live on various terrains, including deserts, mountains, tundra, grasslands and even near human populations.
