Wild Ponies

Lifestyle

Wild ponies live a feral lifestyle and, due to their popularity, are often helped and managed by the nearby human population.

Wild ponies live on a diet of salt marsh plants and brush and are thought to be smaller than the average horse due to their habitat and diet.

Life Cycle

They are hardy and have adapted well to their marshland surroundings. In Virginia, the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department owns and helps care for the horses.
